I thought I’d start off this section with a nice 3 minute noir from director Taylor Engel. One of the mistakes that I’ve sometimes done when writing short scripts is to cram a 15 page story into 5 pages. What writer Christopher Connors did here is sort of the opposite: he took a story that could be told in 30 seconds and used a non-linear narrative device to expand it to 3 minutes. The film starts off with extreme closeups and a bare bones voice-over that suggest nothing more than a romantic encounter. Then we rewind to the beginning and the camera pulls back to reveal more details of the story. We think we have it all figured out until the last rewind, where the story is fully explained, with a mildly unexpected final twist. vimeo.com/120340284
